OutKast has filed a lawsuit against the Oakland rapper and producer Ovrkast over his stage name.
The case was filed on Sept. 16, 2026, in federal court in Georgia. High Schoolers LLC, the company that manages OutKast’s trademarks, filed the lawsuit against Ovrkast, whose real name is Silas Wilson.
According to the complaint, OutKast believes the name “Ovrkast” is too close to “OutKast.” The group claims the similar spelling could make fans believe Ovrkast is connected to André 3000, Big Boi or the OutKast brand.
The lawsuit says OutKast first sent Ovrkast a cease-and-desist letter in June 2025. The two sides later discussed changing his stage name to “Overkxst.” OutKast claims Wilson agreed to stop using Ovrkast by July 15, 2026, but continued using the original name.
The lawsuit accuses Ovrkast of trademark infringement, unfair competition and breaking an agreement. OutKast’s company is asking the court to stop Wilson from using the Ovrkast name. It is also seeking money damages, profits connected to the name and legal fees.
The case is titled High Schoolers, LLC v. Wilson and is being handled in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Judge Eleanor L. Ross is assigned to the case.
As of Sept. 23, Ovrkast had not filed a public response or motion in the case. The claims in the lawsuit are only allegations and have not been proven in court.
