The best way to describe Doechii in this era of music is a Breath of Fresh Air! One thing about Art and every artists artistic expression is there are no rules. Art isn't intended to be liked or understood. Art is intended to be felt! From intro of Doechii's debut EP, "Oh The Places You'll Go", that was my initial reaction. I FELT IT!
If you can manage to be a combination of so many greats like Nicki Minaj and Missy Elliot at the same time possess the subtle influences of Lauryn Hill and Andre 3000,and still find a way to make it your own, that's a balancing act that most aspiring artists wouldn't be able to juggle.
Doechii honed her skill to perfection and she is slowly but surely carving her space out in the culture, etching her name in a way that she will be remembered right along with the legends that started and impacted the culture in an unforgettable way!
The fact that the Tampa, Florida femcee dropped her debut project only 4 years ago and already went Platinum with her single "What It Is" featuring Kodak Black from her Sophmore EP, "She/ Her/ Black Bitch" is a clear indication that she's here to stay.
It all started with her viral success on TikTok with her song "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake" that caught the attention of Kendrick Lamar's home label TDE. I must say,Top Dawg Ent. has an eye and ear for groundbreaking talents. I'm not sure if they get the credit they deserve, but Doechii is only further confirmation that they have a special team over there. They're proving that they didn't just get lucky with K.Dot. They are really out here in these Hip Hop streets finding gems.
With her latest release, "Alligator Bites Don't Heal", once again, from the opening track, Doechii has a way of capturing you're attention immediately and pulls you into her world. From that point, it's no longer a strain to listen.
It's no longer about listening to even like it. She just makes you give up all your inhibitions and takes you on a ride, and feel you safe with her in the driver's seat. You can trust the journey. As I'm listening to "Alligator Bites Don't Heal", vibing to it, Track 4 "Denial Is A River" transitioned into "Catfish" and at that moment I was became a fan!
Ya Gotta Respect That!
